Scholarships

C. Norman Eckert Undergraduate Scholarship

Each year the Maryland Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi has the opportunity to award students of the A. James Clark School of Engineering scholarships thanks to and funded by the C. Norman Eckert Endowment. This endowment is a scholarship program created by the late Mr. Eckert’s family following his tragic death only months after his graduation from the University of Maryland. Per the tenets of this endowment, these scholarships are to be awarded based on merit, service to the university and to the greater community, and need.

Eligibility

Applicants must be undergraduate students in the A. James Clark School of Engineering.

Amount

Recipients will be awarded $1,600 payable to their student accounts.

Deadline

The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. EST on March 13th, 2026.

Application

  1. Make a copy of your respective document.

    • Underclassmen (have completed 3 or fewer semesters in A. James Clark School of Engineering at the time of application) must start here.

    • Upperclassmen (have completed 4 or more semesters in A. James Clark School of Engineering at the time of application) must start here.

  2. Fill in the application and export it to a PDF.

  3. Print your unofficial transcript to a PDF.

  4. Join the two documents into one PDF. Ensure that the application pages are ordered before the transcript pages.

    • Underclassmen must name the file LastName_Under_26.pdf.

    • Upperclassmen must name the file LastName_Upper_26.pdf.

  5. Attach the file in an email to tbp.scholarship@umd.edu by the deadline.


Tau Beta Pi Scholarships

The Tau Beta Pi Association Scholarship Program was established in 1998 with five awards named in honor of former Emeritus R.H. Nagel. Awards have been made to more than 4,401 Scholars for their senior year of engineering study.

Eligibility

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate seniors in the 2026-27 academic year, and they must have initiated into Tau Beta Pi by June 1st, 2026. Pertaining to our chapter, this includes current members and Spring 2026 initiates.

Amount

Recipients will be awarded $2,000 in one payment. Applicants graduating in Fall 2026 are eligible for a $1,000 partial scholarship.

Deadline

The fellowship application deadline is 11:59 p.m. EST on April 1st, 2026. One letter of recommendation must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on April 8th, 2026.
